Ten Steps towards a Greener World

Chris Baskind has suggested 10 steps towards a lighter and more sustainable lifestyle in LighterFootstep.com.

1. Make the switch to Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs)

2. Monitor your thermostat.

3. Clean or replace your air conditioning filter.

4. Unplug idle appliances and electronic devices.

5. Buy a low-flow shower head with a shutoff valve.

6. Drive smarter.

7. Get an annual tune-up for your car.

8. Dust-off that bike.

9. Go meatless once a week.

10. Buy local; buy in season.

These basic steps would really lead to a greener environment.

A great site for WebDesigners

I found this great site browsershots.org from Zigire.net which helps web designers to view their website in different browsers.
clipped from www.zigire.net

As regular readers will know I’m close to finishing my latest project and so I’ve been testing it across multiple browsers on my PC: IE7, Firefox and Opera.

However, I don’t have access to web browsers running on Linux or a Mac.

This is where browsershots.org comes in, it.

A very handy free tool.

Supported browsers/operating systems:

  • Linux: Dillo 0.8, Epiphany 2.14, Epiphany 2.16, Firefox 1.5, Galeon 2.0, Iceweasel 2.0, Konqueror 3.5, Mozilla 1.7, Opera 9.2, Opera 9.10
  • Windows: Firefox 1.5, IE5, IE5.5, IE6, IE7
  • Mac: Firefox 2.0, Safari 2.0

Greasemonkey Script to show 100 Google search results

Nice script to show 100 search results per page on Google.
    clipped from www.freakitude.com

By Default Google displays 10 search results per page. Google 100 is greasemonkey script that will show 100 search results per page instead of default 10.

You can also customize the number of results per page:

    1. Visit Google
    2. Go to Tools -> Greasemonkey -> User Script Commands
    3. Choose “Set Google results per page”
    4. Enter a number between 1 and 100

To use this userscript you need to have firefox and greasemonkey firefox extension already installed.

Click here to install the Google 100 userscript.

Firefox Extensions - my reviews / recommendations

It has been very long since I have started using Firefox and

the best part of it which I like other than tabbed browsing is

the extensions. I have tried and used a large no. of extensions

and here I would like to share the best ones which I am using

    right now.

This is a great bookmarking tool which supports almost all the major bookmarking sites like delicious, digg, etc.

This extension allows you to clip the best part of web pages and then save or blog them using Clipmarks.

A great one. It integrates Firefox with del.icio.us. You can post to delicious as well as search based on tags.

If you download different types of files from web, this extension is a must for you. It automatically saves your downloads to different directories based on the file extension.

View and mange your download from a tidy status bar instead of a separate downloads window. It has some good options like Auto scan the completed downloads.

The first and only download manager/accelerator built inside Firefox!

It combines address bar with progress bar.

Download one link, selected links or all the links of a page together
at the maximum speed with a single click, using the most popular,
lightweight and reliable external download managers.

    Really Full Screen ..

Allows you to manage multiple Gmail accounts and receive new mail
    notifications.

Sync and manage Google Bookmarks with Firefox Bookmarks.

Now change the web pages as you want using small javascripts and Greasemonkey.

Embedding Internet Explorer in Firefox Tabs is an easy job with this. Now open two gmail accounts from a single browser.

Minimizes Mozilla windows into the system tray. A nice one for users running several applications at once.

RSS/Atom New Reader - very similar to Google Reader.

It saves entire webpages as images.

ScribeFire (previously Performancing for Firefox) is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog. Save notes, enable pings and bookmarks etc.

It saves and restores the state of all windows either when you want it or automatically at startup and after crashes. Additionally it offers you to reopen (accidentally) closed windows and tabs.

Allows you to insert text by right clicking on a text box and selecting from a menu of predefined texts like email, sites, signature in forums etc.

A collaborative surfing tool for finding and sharing great sites using stumbleupon.com

An extension that allows you to manage and switch between multiple proxy configurations quickly and easily.

This extensions resides in the bottom right side of the browser and allows you to download videos and all embedded objects from Youtube, Google, Metacafe, iFilm, Dailymotion etc. A great one.

I see Zaadz as a “My Space with a deeper purpose”. It is capitalizing on two things. One - this is the age of the Internet. Two - why not use that to make this world a truly better place?

    That is a beautiful thing : )
